I'm not quite sure how to say this without it conveying the wrong idea. OK: I wish I liked Ed Burns. There, I've said it. I'm not sure why I'd like to enjoy his works, but I do. More than that, I try to watch them and try to like them and I fail miserably. This makes me sad.

It's tricky to backtrack and fill in the missed weeks of posting to a blog. On the upside, in the meantime I've had two papers accepted for publication. One on a language learning algorithm I developed with Tim and Leo will be presented at ICGI in Tokyo. Another on pattern discovery in sensor data with no a priori knowledge will be presented at ECML/PKDD in Berlin. Unfortunately, ICGI and ECML/PKDD occur at the same time this September. While I have been to Germany before, an easy trip to Munich for Oktoberfest may be alluring. Thoughts?

Prior to the outbreak of mid-atlantic humidity and flooding, I took a brief trip outside the beltway to the National Park Service's site in Hampton. The restoration is in progress, but the grounds are still open. My gallery of Hampton National Historic Site pictures includes some unmowed lawns and greenhouses in disrepair. The sign in the picture above states "Captain Charles Ridgely (1733-1790)".
